You just looked at the calendar and realized your photo session is quickly approaching, or maybe you have been thinking about it since you booked: What do we wear for our photos? Everyone is different but I can help by giving you some ideas on what photographs well, then add in your own flare and you will have the perfect look for your family. To goal is to have everyone look put together and to complement each other while still being yourselves.
Here are some tips:
1. Choose one person's clothing first and then base the other outfits around that one. You do not need to go out an buy all new clothes, just start with one main item an then build off of the colors or patterns to create other looks.
2. Color is good. A pop of color goes a long way in photos. White can be nice but if you decide to wear white I recommend breaking it up with a sweater, scarf, tie or other accessory. You do not all need to wear an identical color, they do not need to match perfectly. Use shades of a color. For example if you choose blue, consider navy, royal and shades of sky or grey. It adds visual interest to your images.
3. Plaid, stripes, polka dotes all look great in photos but they should compliment the overall look of the photo and other outfits. You don't want to draw attention from the photo as a whole so choose wisely.
4. Layers and textures look great in photos. They add interest, dimension and extra outfit options. Ad a cardigan or blazer, a chunky scarf or layered necklaces. Guys can go with a scarf, tie or pullover. For girls printed tights/leggings under a cute dress paired with boots and fun accessories. For boys a patterned shirt under a sweater or blazer and some bold sneakers.
5. From jean to dresses, and everything in between - be sure you are comfortable in what you wear and it will show in your photos. Just make sure everyone is comfortable in what they are wearing so that they can move around without pulling, tugging or readjusting their clothes. Rock the outfit, don't let it rock you!
6. Be Yourself! This goes for everyone in the photo. We want to show how awesome your family is in your photos and we want your personalities to shine through.
7. And most importantly Have Fun! Even if everything isn't perfect the photos will be a memory in time and you will look back and love them no matter what.
